Institutional Strengthening Project by ACCOSCA and ILCUF

The ACCOSCA-ILCUF Operational Project was a partnership between ACCOSCA and the Irish League of Credit Unions International Development Foundation (ILCU Foundation), first launched in 2022, with the project concluding in 2025. The partnership was conceived on a straightforward but foundational premise: that ACCOSCA and the Foundation could better serve their respective SACCO and credit union movements if they first invested in strengthening themselves, both as individual institutions and as partners working in close coordination.

It also extended support to the ACCOSCA Academy, including contributions to curriculum development, reinforcing ACCOSCA’s role as a center of learning and professional development for the African cooperative financial sector. On the Foundation’s side, the project helped build its capacity to support partner countries on regulatory matters, an area of growing importance as SACCO and credit union movements across Africa mature within evolving national regulatory frameworks.

By the time the project concluded, it had delivered on its founding intent: a formalized and deepened working relationship between ACCOSCA and the Foundation, strengthened internal capacity within ACCOSCA to support its member movements, meaningful support to the ACCOSCA Academy’s training infrastructure, and enhanced regulatory expertise within the Foundation to better guide its partner countries. In keeping with ACCOSCA’s values of cooperation, mutual empowerment, and long-term institutional resilience, the project leaves behind a strengthened foundation for continued collaboration between the two organizations in support of strong, secure, and sustainable SACCO and credit union movements across Africa.
